Sources of Public Data Referenced by Saferparks

The graphs, charts, and trends published by Saferparks are drawn from two primary sources of ride-related accident/injury data:

  • Industry-Regulatory Reports - State regulatory agencies and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) have provided public records of accidents involving amusement rides and devices regulated under their jurisdiction. Years covered, equipment types included, and level of detail provided vary by jurisdiction. These reports are ride/device-focused. In aggregate, they provide some insight into the ways in which patrons are hurt using amusement rides and attractions.
  • Hospital Data - CPSC samples data on ER-treated injuries related to consumer products through the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS). NEISS data is a probabilistic sampling used to estimate national injury rates. The medical data is patient-focused and can be useful in analyzing patterns of amusement ride and device-related injury.
